Our Programs
YTC programs recognize and inspire the natural curiosity inherent in high school students. YTC applies that energy in positive and proactive ways using technology. YTC not only supports the individual student’s personal and professional development, but also benefits entire communities. YTC programs promote the social-emotional learning students need for success in school and in life
It all begins with refurbishment
The foundation of all of YTC programs has been and will continue to be the refurbishment and upgrading of used personal computers (PCs) donated by individuals, businesses and institutions. Students take part in hands-on training in which skilled instructors show how to disassemble computers, test the components, and replace the components into the newly functional computers. The students repair hardware and learn to load software. Through this process, the students gain comfort and familiarity with PC technology from the inside out.

After a computer is properly refurbished, the students donate it to computer labs the students have helped establish in the neediest schools, churches, community, youth and senior centers. Over time, the students operate and maintain these labs and instruct others in the community how to use the computers. Through teaching, the students develop leadership skills, reinforce the material learned, gain confidence, and earn the respect of others. This technology platform becomes the foundation for pursuit of more advanced programs and applications, including A+ Certification and Business Entrepreneurship

Advanced Programs
YTC Advanced Programs build on the momentum and infrastructure already existent in YTC’s refurbishment programs. The Advanced Programs are taught concurrently with the basic programs but at different times so participants can remain involved on both levels.

A+ Certification
A+ Certification is an industry standard that the YTC student technician qualifies for after completing the refurbishment process. Certification is a professional qualification which leads to expanded job opportunities at higher pay rates.  Certification is easily achievable for most students who complete the requirements of the refurbishment process

Business Entrepreneurship

YTC’s Business Entrepreneurship program is unique in that YTC participants learn to operate a small business through the refurbishment process.  YTC students are responsible for computer procurement, inventory control, staff management, client relations and customer service. For example, QuickBooks accounting is learned first as a class exercise then used in student fundraising.  The students sell a portion of their inventory once they have met their donation quota. The students come to appreciate how successful business management is incumbent upon fiscal responsibility.  YTC participants are exposed to Industry professionals who volunteer to speak to students about the volunteers’ personal experiences in the business world.
