Why Our Programs Work
The Harvard Family Research Project recently published results supporting the success of after school programs. After examining dozens of after school programs, the report repeatedly underscores the powerful impact, including academic achievement, that results from affording youth opportunities to practice new skills through hands-on, experiential learning in project-based after school programs.
YTC is an outstanding example of the type of program that the report cited. YTC programs create an environment where the curiosity and creative ambition of high school students is encouraged. Through authentic learning and useable knowledge, students have hands – on experience with technology that is meaningful and ultimately marketable. YTC students receive comprehensive technical training which enables the students to donate refurbished computers, to establish computer labs in their own communities, and to teach others in the community how to operate the technology.
YTC’s hires the best students as instructors after high school graduation. Alternatively, a graduate can continue to develop personally and professionally with YTC by becoming a paid intern partnered with a senior instructor.
